Vibroacoustics Solutions, IncVibroacoustics Inc. / Creative Composites Nominated for National Award

July, 2006 – The U.S. Small Business Administration’s ‘Small Business Innovaton Research Program’ (SBIR) has nominated VSI for its prestigious Roland Tibbett’s Award. Vibroacoustics Solutions, Inc. (VSI) is one of a national group of nominees for the award, named for the man considered to be the father of the SBIR program. The Tibbetts Award goes to small firms, projects, organizations, and individuals judged to be the best at commercializing important facets of technology, which is the focus of SBIR.

VSI, and its Brooklyn based subsidiary Creative Composites, Ltd., (CC) have received two SBIR grants aimed at the development of new, industrial technologies. One grant focused on the use of fibers from the Kenaf plant as a component for acoustic products that reduce noise and vibration. Creative Composites’ plant in Brooklyn manufactures door cores made of Kenaf that greatly improve the soundproof qualities of the doors in which they are used.

Creative Composites’ president Craig Shore said he’s thrilled to be nominated for the Tibbetts award. “It’s a great honor for the company and underscores the important work in which our employees are engaged.

Shore said the materials used by VSI incorporate Kenaf plants. He said CC and local growers are working to increase the quantity of these plants (Kenaf) grown locally to create a cash crop and bring a natural fiber processing plant to the region. By commercializing natural products, CC expands its impact beyond the creation of manufacturing jobs.

Tibbetts Award winners will be announced later this year.
